The difference between Toyota hybrid vehicles and Toyota plug-in hybrid vehicles

Toyota has one of the most comprehensive lineups of hybrid vehicles in Canada. Moreover, Toyota hybrid vehicles are among the best-selling and most popular electrified vehicles in the country. Toyota hybrid vehicles deliver exceptional fuel economy and performance.

Toyota hybrid vehicles also set the benchmark when it comes to resale value and reliability. That said, Toyota also has an impressive lineup of plug-in hybrid vehicles. Have you ever wondered what the difference was between the two? Let's take a look closer look

The difference between hybrid Toyota vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles

Both hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles share similarities in terms of their powertrain. Both have an electric motor paired with a battery, and this is paired with a gas engine. The major difference is that plug-in hybrid vehicles like the Toyota RAV4 Prime in the Toyota Prius Prime have larger batteries than hybrid Toyota vehicles like the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, Toyota Corolla Hybrid, Toyota Highlander Hybrid, or the new Toyota Tundra truck and Toyota Sienna minivan.

This larger battery allows Toyota plug-in hybrid vehicles to drive on electric power alone, something that Toyota hybrid vehicles can't do. The Toyota Prius Prime can go over 40 km without using a single drop of fuel while the Toyota RAV4 Prime can go over 65 km on a single charge. This allows you to go through most of your daily commutes without needing a single drop of fuel.

A hybrid vehicle can't function on electric power alone, but the electric motor and battery are there to assist the gas engine as needed. In other words, it takes the strain off of the gas engine and allows the engine to use less fuel in daily operations. You don't have to charge a Toyota hybrid vehicle and you can drive the way you have always driven. You will notice that you still get exceptional fuel economy gains.

Both Toyota hybrid and Toyota plug-in hybrid vehicles also require no compromise when it comes to interior space or versatility. Toyota hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles are just as reliable as traditional Toyota vehicles, and they have the same exceptional resale value. They often deliver more performance in the traditional gas engine counterpart, as well.

There is no wrong choice when it comes to choosing a Toyota hybrid or plug-in hybrid vehicle. It all depends on finding the right vehicle for your specific needs. Give us a call today to learn more.
