The new 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander will deliver on passenger space and cargo capacity

The brand-new 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander will offer three spacious rows of seats with the third row being able to accommodate adults on a long road trip. Eight-passenger seating is standard while available middle-row captain’s chairs are also offered. As for cargo capacity, the 2024 Grand Highlander delivers 2,775 L of total capacity. It provides roughly 400 extra litres of cargo space overall compared to the Highlander.

We have to assume that the bulk of this added cargo space will be found behind the third row. Toyota says you can now fit seven carry-on bags inside the Grand Highlander even with all its seats in place. 

The latest safety and connectivity features

The 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander give its owners the latest connectivity and safety tech. The Grand Highlander will feature a standard 12.3-inch centre display housing the latest Toyota Multimedia system along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The new Toyota Multimedia system is quite impressive, first by its ability to allow the owner and the passenger to modify various functions using natural voice commands. Moreover, this infotainment system includes over-the-air updates and real-time cloud-based navigation.

Toyota Grand Highlander owners will also get access to the full suite of Toyota Connected services. Pressing a button can connect you to a live agent in case of emergency or allow you to receive directions, again from a real person. Certain versions of the Toyota Grand Highlander offer a digital key which allows you to unlock the doors using your phone while remote access features provide a range of functionality like starting the engine or locking the doors using a mobile app.  

Moreover, the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander will feature the latest Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite of active safety technologies that include automatic braking for pedestrians and cyclists as well as the most advanced radar-based active cruise control you can find on a Toyota vehicle. Blind spot monitoring is also standard while a rearview camera, 360° parking camera, parking assistance with automatic braking and traffic jam assist are optional.

The Grand Highlander will also stand out when it comes to comfort features. It gets standard heated front and power seats, heated steering wheel, and multiple-zone climate controls. It also offers available ventilated front seats and heated second-row seats along with motion-activated power tailgate and panoramic sunroof.

An impressive trio of available engines

The 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander will feature three available powertrains. Two of those powertrains, the 2.4-litre turbo standard gas engine and 2.5-litre hybrid powertrain are very similar to what we find in the current Highlander.

The 2.4-litre turbo generates 264 hp and 310 pound-feet of torque, and it can tow up to 5,000 pounds. The other available powertrain is the 2.5-litre hybrid engine that should deliver around 243 hp and average under 7 L per 100 km.

The highlight of the 2024 Grand Highlander engine lineup is the new Hybrid Max powertrain. This impressive powertrain delivers 362 hp and 400 pound-feet of torque courtesy of a hybrid combination of a 2.4-litre turbo and electric powertrain. This engine will push the Grand Highlander to 100 km/h in under seven seconds according to Toyota
