Comparing the 2023 Toyota Highlander, Grand Highlander, and Sienna: Choosing the Best Fit

Choosing a new family vehicle can be a challenging task, especially when it involves renowned models like the 2023 Toyota Highlander, 2023 Toyota Grand Highlander, and 2023 Toyota Sienna. Each of these vehicles offers a unique set of features, and understanding these nuances is key to making the best decision. In this article, we won't be declaring a winner but instead, offering a comparison to help you identify which model aligns best with your needs.

Engine and Performance

Both the Highlander and Grand Highlander feature a 2.4-litre turbo engine that produces 264 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the Sienna stands out as the only minivan to offer a standard hybrid engine, accompanied by all-wheel drive, with a hybrid system net power output of 245 hp.

The Highlander and Sienna demonstrate differences in fuel efficiency. The Highlander consumes 11.0 L/100 km in the city and 8.4 L/100 km on the highway. Conversely, the Sienna excels in this aspect, with 6.8 L/100 km in the city and 6.6 L/100 km on the highway. The Grand Highlander's numbers are not out yet, but they will likely be similar to the Highlander.

The three models also vary in towing capacity. Both the Highlander and Grand Highlander can tow up to 2268 kg, while the Sienna lags slightly behind at 1585 kg.

Interior Comfort and Capacity

When it comes to internal comfort and space, each model presents its own advantages. The Sienna offers the maximum interior cargo volume at 2860 L, followed by the Grand Highlander at 2761 L and the Highlander at 2387 L.

In terms of legroom, the Highlander provides the most front (1,066 mm) and rear legroom (1,042 mm), while the Sienna offers the most 3rd-row legroom with 983 mm vs 702 mm for the Highlander and 851 mm for the Grand Highlander. The Sienna, however, provides the greatest hip room across all rows and the most shoulder room.

The Sienna has the most space inside overall with 4,522 L overall while the Grand Highlander and Highlander offering 4,341 L and 4092 L, respectively.

Ultimately, the decision between the 2024 Toyota Highlander, Grand Highlander, and Sienna comes down to individual needs and preferences. If fuel efficiency and space are top priorities, the Sienna seems a good fit. However, if you desire more engine power and a comprehensive tech package, the Highlander or Grand Highlander might be the right choice. By understanding these key differences, you can make an informed decision that best suits your needs and lifestyle.
