A Look at the 2024 Toyota Prius Prime, its Pricing, and its Specifications

The Toyota Prius and its plug-in counterpart, the Prius Prime, were thoroughly redesigned and re-engineered last year, which means that the 2024 model is still one of the most modern, stylish, powerful, and efficient options in its segment. Here is a closer look at this model and what it has to offer.

220 horsepower and 72 km of electric range

The Toyota Prius has always been known as an efficient, eco-conscious car, but not necessarily as one that is fun to drive. This has changed, however, and the 2024 Toyota Prius Prime is the most dynamic Prius ever, without compromising on its legendary efficiency. Indeed, the new Prius Prime benefits from a 2.0L Atkinson cycle engine and an electric motor that combine to deliver 220 horsepower, which is almost 100 more horsepower than the previous generation. Torque is also up, with a 32% increase over the last Prius Prime. Despite this, the rechargeable battery allows a fully electric range of up to 72 kilometres, which means that many drivers will never need to use the gasoline engine in daily driving, keeping it ready for longer weekend trips and summer vacations. This makes for a combined fuel consumption of 1.8 Le /100 km when running in electric mode and 4.5 L/100 km once the battery is depleted.

Three attractive grades

The 2024 Toyota Prius Prime is offered on the Canadian market in three well-equipped trim levels that all benefit from a long list of standard features. Here is a look at them, starting with the entry-level SE. Available from $39,050, this version of the new Prius Prime comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, the Toyota Multimedia infotainment system with Service Connect, Safety Connect, and Remote Connect, an 8-inch touchscreen, a six-speaker audio system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, rain-sensing wipers, and the push-button start system.

Choosing the $43,750 XSE version adds items such as Drive Connect, a 12,3-inch touchscreen, 19-inch alloy wheels, SofTex upholstery, an 8-way power driver’s seat, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, wireless charging for mobile devices, an enhanced version of the intelligent key access system, a glass roof, driver monitoring, and Traffic Jam Assist.

The top-of-the-line $47,550 XSE Premium brings a few additional features such as an eight-speaker JBL premium sound system, a power hatch, a 360-degree camera system, a rear camera washer, the Advanced Park system, the digital key feature, and a memory function for the driver’s seat.

Advanced safety features

The 2024 Toyota Prius Prime benefits from the latest driver assistance technologies since the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite of active safety features is standard on all models. These technologies include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with pedestrian and motorcycle detection, intersection support, front and rear cross-traffic alert, as well as lane tracing assist. This latter system is even capable of working when lane markings are inconsistent or rubbed off in places. This all contributes to making the 2024 Toyota Prius Prime one of the safest vehicles on the market, earning it the IIHS’ Top Safety Pick+ award.
