2021 Toyota RAV4: versions for everyone
November 23 2020,
The success that the Toyota RAV4 has enjoyed for decades, but especially over the past few years, is no coincidence. There are versions for everyone of this SUV that has a proven track record for quality and reliability. Let's see what it has in store for you.
FWD Versions
Of the 12 different versions of the RAV4, two are offered with the front-wheel drive configuration, as not all want, or necessarily need, all-wheel drive. If you’re in that situation, check out the LE and XLE models.
All-wheel drive?
Of course, if you mostly want to get your hands on an SUV to take advantage of all-wheel drive, the RAV4 has you covered. First, the two models also offered with two-wheel drive are also offered with available AWD.
One of these models is the Trail version which offers improved all-terrain capability and 3,500-pounds of towing capacity, more than the other RAV4s.
All the models described above get a powerful 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine that delivers 203 horsepower, more than any other compact SUV.
Next come the hybrid variants of the RAV4. Here, Toyota has taken an aggressive approach, offering its electrified powertrain in four different trims, with the LE, XLE, XSE and Limited trim levels. What more do you get here? The same 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine as the regular versions, but since the latter receives the input of an electric motor, it offers truly remarkable fuel economy, averaging 6 liters per 100 kilometers.
Finally, two other RAV4s are on the menu, the Prime models. These offer a more powerful electric configuration, so that it is possible to travel 68 kilometers without the input of the gasoline engine. By planning your trips well, fuel is hardly used any more. The offer here comes down to the SE and XSE versions, although a tech package can be added to the latter.
With Prime models, fuel economy, power (302 horsepower) and handling (lower center of gravity) are spot on.
Note that all six electrified models are offered with all-wheel drive.
