2019 Toyota Prius Bows with Awd at La Auto Show

The pioneer of hybrid cars in Canada, the Toyota Prius, is getting some significant improvements for 2019 starting with the addition of all-wheel drive to its lineup. That makes the Prius one of the few hybrid vehicles available today in Canada to offer its owners the added stability and confidence of all-wheel drive.

The new Prius also gets a host of interior and exterior styling adjustments and the Toyota Safety Sense P system as standard equipment across all models in the family. There has never been a safer Toyota Prius.

Awd-e Offered in the 2019 Toyota Prius

The Toyota Prius will use the same AWD-e system found in Prius models elsewhere in the world. This system adds an independent electric motor that powers the rear wheels as needed. The on-demand system can be used up until 70 km/h in order to add traction and grip the rear wheels as needed.

On the other hand, when the road is clear, the system isn’t in use which ensures top-notch fuel economy. The 2019 Toyota Prius with all-wheel drive has a posted fuel economy rating of 4.5 litres per 100 kilometres in the city and 4.9 litres per 100 kilometres on the highway.

That's noted a huge difference with the front-wheel-drive Prius which has an average fuel economy rating of 4.4 litres per 100 kilometres in the city and 4.6 litres per 100 kilometres on the highway.

The Prius with AWD-e will be as spacious as the FWD Prius and will offer 1,855 litres of total cargo space. It will also include standard Toyota Safety Sense P which includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/ PD), Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/ SA), Automatic High Beams (AHB), and Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC).

The 2019 Toyota Prius is set to arrive on the market this spring. Contact us today to learn more about the new Prius.
